Police Trainees: Your Chance to Make a Difference

Do you dream of making a difference, protecting your community and helping build a safer South Africa? Becoming one of the country’s next Police Trainees could be your opportunity to turn that dream into a meaningful career.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has opened online applications for 5,500 police trainee positions for the 2026/2027 financial year. Applications opened on 21 October 2026 and close on 13 November 2026, giving eligible young South Africans an opportunity to step forward and answer the call to serve.

Policing requires more than wearing a uniform. It calls for courage, discipline, integrity and a genuine commitment to helping others. If these qualities describe you, this recruitment drive could be worth exploring.

Police Trainees: Who Should Apply?

SAPS is encouraging South Africans aged 18 to under 35 to apply, provided they meet the prescribed requirements.

The recruitment drive also recognizes that young people bring different talents to the fight against crime. Graduates in Law, Policing, Criminology, Law Enforcement, Forensic Investigation, Natural Sciences, Computer Sciences and Information Technology may be considered for specialized environments, including the Hawks, Detective and Forensic Services, and Crime Intelligence.

Successful candidates will undergo training at a SAPS academy. Those with relevant qualifications at NQF Level 6 or higher will complete six months of training, while those without these qualifications will complete the standard nine-month programme. All Police Trainees will receive a monthly stipend of R5,000 during training.
