Youth Express is a bold, purpose-driven digital platform created to empower South Africa’s youth with the skills, confidence, and information they need to thrive in a rapidly changing world. At a time when youth unemployment exceeds 45% and millions of young people are struggling to find opportunities, Youth Express exists to unlock untapped potential and inspire meaningful action.
South African youth aged 15–34 make up nearly one third of the population, representing over 21 million vibrant, creative, and resilient individuals. Yet many face systemic barriers including unemployment, gender disparity, language exclusion, mental health challenges, and limited access to reliable guidance. Youth Express was created to meet these challenges head-on, using engaging, accessible, and practical content designed specifically for young people.
Why Youth Express Matters in South Africa
Youth unemployment remains one of South Africa’s most pressing challenges, with 4 to 5 out of every 10 young people unable to find work. Even more concerning is the gender gap: while 31.9% of young men found employment in 2024, only 24.2% of young women did the same

Inclusion, and Language Access
South Africa has 12 official languages, yet most media content is produced primarily in English, excluding millions of youth from valuable information. Youth Express is committed to inclusivity by creating multilingual content, including sign language, and celebrating linguistic heritage through innovative digital storytelling.
This approach ensures that Youth Express reaches young people where they are, in the language they understand best.
Youth Express and Mental Health Awareness
Nearly 75% of mental health conditions develop before the age of 25, making early intervention critical. Many South African youth grow up exposed to violence, poverty, and instability, with limited access to support systems. Our brand campaign addresses this urgent need through youth-led campaigns, expert conversations, and practical mental health resources that encourage open dialogue and resilience.

Youth Express was founded by Melini Moses, a respected journalist and communications expert with over 25 years of experience in South African media. Inspired by years of reporting on unemployment and inequality, Melini created Youth Express to transform storytelling into tangible impact—one skill, one video, and one empowered young person at a time.
